Indian Head Massage- a deeply relaxing treatment.

There are so many different types of massage available today as more therapists become interested in providing a greater range of treatments from different cultures to help their clients relax and take a break from our busy everyday lives. This week I attended training to learn how to give my clients Indian head massage….wow it’s incredible! Let me tell you a bit more about it…

Massage has been part of daily life in India for thousands of years as it is an acknowledged way of cleansing and maintaining body health and achieving joy and inspiration. Indian head massage is an extremely effective therapy that has been evolved from traditional techniques practiced in India as part of family rituals for over a thousand years. Massage is applied to the upper back, neck and shoulders, scalp and face.

The client receives the treatment sitting comfortably in a chair allowing the therapist full access to the areas to be treated. This makes Indian head massage an ideal treatment for clients who do not like to or who are unable to lie face down on the couch for a massage. The massage can be done with the client fully clothed if they wish and without oil making this an accessible treatment for clients who feel to self-conscious to undress for a massage.

Massaging the head has many benefits. It can help to relieve stress related problems such as: headaches, eye strain and neck and shoulder stiffness. The skull is covered by a thin layer of muscle which tightens when we are tense or stressed resulting in headaches and feelings of anxiety. By massaging the head we help to relax the muscles, improve the blood flow, alleviate anxiety and help to relax the whole body. If your head feels good, the rest of your body will to.
